Lake Superior beach glass is made from pieces of discarded glass and bottles long ago dumped into Lake Superior. Each piece is naturally formed and polished by the harsh action of the sand, rock and waves of the turbulent waters.
Aside from drilling holes in the glass, each piece is exactly as found. We do not polish or tumble it, but rather use it in its unique naturally formed state.
At Gichigumi Creations Studio, we have been combing the shores collecting the antiqued glass for over 30 years, and creating jewelry and other items from these found treasures since 2008.
In June of 2011 I opened Gichigumi Creations Studio in a small building outside of our home in Herbster Wisconsin on the South Shore of Lake Superior.
Gichigumi (sometimes spelled Kitchi-gummi or Gichigami) is the word for Big Shining Lake that the Ojibwa band of Chippewa Natives gave to their beloved Lake.
It continues to inspire our creativity and we invite you to visit our studio of Lake Superior beach glass either online or in person.
